I have to tell you that I love reading your books. Your characters come to life and make me smile, even laugh at loud, at their situations and reactions. You provide a much needed vacation from everyday cares. My current favorite is Wedded Bliss. I just wish there were an audio book to go along with it. Thank you!

I have so enjoyed your books over the years. I have them all! I have been sick for about a month. In between waking up and sleeping around the clock, I have been reading all my old favorites of yours that are in the bookshelf right by my bed. Thank you for the enjoyment all over again.

Dear Barbara, When I started reading Regency romances, I soon found myself with a collection of more than 500 titles! Now I am downsizing - eliminating authors whose books I enjoyed - but not as much as the authors who became my favorites. I'm sur you can guess who my favorite is! (Initials B M!) PLEASE keep writing - what I like about your books is your play on word series and your GREAT sense of humor. And THE HOURGLASS is my super favorite!

You are one of my favorite authors. I grab anything with your name on it and read them repeatedly. Your "voice" is unique and absolutely delightful, especially in the contrast between humor and dire straits. Thank you for adding that lightness to our lives.

Comments: I have so enjoyed your books. My mom doesn't usually read fiction but when I read your books to her we both enjoy a good laugh together. I have a pretty vivid imagination and you write so well that I can picture everything in my mind as if I am watching it in a movie. Thank you.

Dear Barbara,

I just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed your books. I think I must almost have read my way through your entire backlist by now. They're so warm and funny that they never fail to make me happy just reading them. I've always loved the fact that you settle the other characters in the books as happily as the main characters. You also have the best heroes and heroines. I think my favourite has to be Graydon from Lady Whilton's Wedding (which is absolutely brilliantly funny) or the one from Lord Heartless, but there are an awful lot of close runners up.

So, thank you very much. They've been brilliant,

Caroline

I just read "The Hourglass" and appreciate the eloquent bit on pp. 329-330 about experiencing grief. I know you are known for humorous writing but you can write the gamut of emotion.

Dear Barbara, I really enjoy your books and mostly they give me a good laugh. My favourite is Father Christmas but I have to say that the hero would not need permission to marry his cousin's widow only his brother's widow. I often wonder what happened to this happy family.

Wedded Bliss was such fun (as your books always are) but you'd have real problems getting from a morning in Kew to an afternoon at the Towet even now, never mind in the 19th century (when the river would be your best option).

Come to London and I'll walk you round the city!

And thank you for the witty books.

Hi my name is Monique. I just read your "The Hourglass" novel and it was beautiful, clever, and magical. It only took me a day and a half to read it. I couldn't put it down. Your story line was so unique and unexpected, that it eclipses many other novels I've read that were too predictable.

My Dear Ms. Metzger,

Words cannot begin to relate, at least my words lol, how your books have provided solace in my grief as an unexpected widow. Your books take me to places I am not able to go on my own. And they are wonderful places. I am fascinated by the workings of your mind. You are, in my opinion, truly unique and of great value to probably more people than even you can imagine. I have never left an author a comment, but my heart was filled with joy, as I read and reread the books you have gifted us. I am so truly in awe of your imagination. You must be a fun person to be around. Thanks again for the respite and the joy.

I am constantly in search authors with the caliber and style of Georgette Heyer and have enjoyed many of your books. Recent Kindle purchases have resulted in my writing the following review of "Compromising Miss Tisdale" by Jessica Jefferson, "I thoroughly agree with Old Latin Teacher and her one-star review. Unfortunately, this kind of sloppy writing and editing is too common in many recently (and, it seems, hastily) published Kindle books. I'm going back to the exquisite writing skills of Georgette Heyer and Barbara Metzger!!" Following that review, I ordered the rest of your books to read. Thank you for your diligence and dedication to quality story lines and fine writing skills.

I'd never been much of a romance reader, but have the print copy of THE DIAMOND KEY and
thought it very sweet. Then I read some of the others.. I thought SAVED BY SCANDAL was the
funniest I'd ever read. Today I read DEBT TO DELIA and had to stop reading I was laughing so
hard. I don't know how you do it, but please, please DON'T STOP! Thank-you so much.

Barbara, I recently began reading your books and must compliment you on your skill as a
writer. I was particularly impressed with an older novel of yours , "An Angel for the Earl".
I generally avoid Fantasy Regency, since I have found historical truth far more interesting
than most writer's fantasies (time-travel romances really bother me). What suprised me with
"An angel for the Earl" was your use of fantasy situations as allegorical devices to discuss
God, Truth, and Love. Something attempted by many but few accomplish so well as you. The last
chapter was a Masterpiece in the regency genre. My one BIG complaint was the lack of an
Epilogue. This reader wanted to read more about the Lucy & Kerry characters. Why not include
them as secondary characters in future novels. They are characters a reader can learn life
lessons from. You are great at wit and laughter in your work, but I think you are a good
teacher as well.

My grandfather has been reading regency romance novels for decades now, and as a connoisseur he recommended An Affair of Interest to me, giving me his copy a few years ago when I asked if there were any I might borrow as I have always been finnicky about my love stories. While growing up, my mother set me on to Georgette Heyer, and The Devil's Cub quickly became my favorite - however an Affair of Interest will always rank beside it, as more lively and more witty and with much more emotion. It is a story that makes me laugh and lets me feel a little bit of that sweet heart break that many readers cannot help but enjoy because of the promise of satisfaction at the end. Thank you for An Affair of Interest. I have no idea if you enjoyed writing it, but I will always enjoy going back and reading it again.

Love your use of alliteration . You are one funny and creative lady . Was sorry to hear of your friend Edith Layton s death. She was a great storyteller also. Loved the stories about the dogs in the Christmas regencies and all her other books also. God Bless .

I sincerely hope you change your mind and add some more wonderful books in the regency genre.

I LOVED them, I found myself laughing out loud and in tears with one line about when inspector Dimm sent Rex off with the older safe cracker and he wanted to know if he should feed him and put him in the  sun..... I laugh still it was such a funny moment. I truly love your stories, they are so well crafted.

Hi Barbara, Life Guards in the Hamptons was great! Just loved Oey and her lisp. I have 2 Newf grandogs Molly 6 and Lucy 3. You described them perfectly. They do not run, they bound! and even though they are not longer puppies, they still try to climb my lap. They Are loving, friendly big dogs who are gentle. They go to "daycare" and Molly takes care of all the little dogs. When she lies down for a nap, the little ones will even climb on her back and nap too. The others lie down as close to her as possible. Carol

I have been reading Regency Romances for several years now. This happenbed to be the only RR in the library, and I had never heard of Barbara Metzger. I borrowed it. Im glad I did. It was suspenseful, touching and totally hilarious. I have only read one other author (British) whose book was a 'barrel of laughs'. Unfortunately I was not recording authors at that time. Now I want to read all Barbara's books. Keep up the good work!

Dear Ms. Metzger, To everything there is a season, or so they say, and regrettably the season for regencies has past. However, I still have the pleasure of re-reading all your old books. Dear Barbara - without question you are the finest regency romance writer in print - even Mary Balogh, whose books I have collected since she began writing cannot compare with the plots your delightful imagination conjures up, the unforgettable characters that sprint to life as your stories develop, the tenderness and generosity of your heros and the free spirits of your heroines. I greatly miss your contemporaries - Layton, Mansfield, and Ivory whose work was always satisfying and original, but your place as number one gal is undeniable! Would love to be able to purchase more e books for my kindle, and have added all that Amazon has until now (March, 2011), so let us know when the early works will be available. Good health to and yours and my thanks for unimaginable hours of pleasure thru your books.

The unique twist to the book of Ardeth's situation, the humor, the interplay of his and Genie's thoughts and emotions, the unexpected plot twists all added wonderful layers to the story's depth. As this is the first book of yours I have read, I hope to discover that this is the first in a plethora of others based on the colorful characters you introduced on these pages.

I am a new reader of your novels and I absolutely love what I've read so far. I have the hardest time putting the books down and I have the blues when I have completed a book. I wish the stories never end. I just thought that I'd tell you, because you can never hear it enough!!

I am a fan of the Regency Romance novels, however, after having read more than 50 of them in the last few months, I am SO impressed with the 'love' scenes in Ms. Metzger's books. They are clean, fun and charming. I have become so very tired of the grossly explicit scenes in most of the romance novels. Those descriptions take away from the real story. I have just discovered Metzger's writing & will read as many of her books as I can find.

Thank you for your endeavors - witty and fun to read - I smile and laugh often. Love your books. Thank you again. I just hope all of them can be located to enjoy! Have read all that the Ft. Bend County Library system offers. These are worthy of rereading after a period of time like Dick Francis' wonderful books - shall look for them for permanent status in my library.

When my friends ask what is so great about Barbara Metzger books, I tell them Metzger is the Oscar Wilde of regency romances. It is wonderful, and oh so rare, to find a writer with such wit and who never disappoints. My first priority is to clear eight hours whenever I pick up a Metzger book, There is NO way I am putting it down again.

Thank you Barbara for hours of fun.

There are few writers whose work I will buy and read knowing it will be worth the money and time without question. Yours always deliver. I don't even need to "read the jacket" to know if it will be worth my time. If the author is Metzger, Veryan, Aiken-Hodge, Stewart or Holt I know it will be a keeper and reread. Thanks for the pleasures and in your case the gentle humor that makes me laugh out loud.

Thank you for writing all these books old and new. I had a wonderful time and keep chuckling while reading, especially the older ones. I don't go out often and reading and sometimes movies are my only friends. Your books entertain most of us readers who are out of a job. It passes the time and prevents you from tearing your hair out.

I often see Barbara Metzger's name on other anthologies I purchase that include authors I enjoy. I found "Christmas Wishes" in the local library's book store (inventory supplied by library patrons for resale at low low prices). Purchased it and ENJOYED. When I found "BARGAIN BRIDE" at a bookstore this Christmas, I purchased and read immediately. DELIGHTFUL in every way.

I would like to see a PRINTABLE BOOK LIST on this web site.
Thanks for many hours of reading pleasure!!!!!!

I love the Regency period in England's history. I happened on books two and three of the True Love trilogy and now have just purchased book one, Truly Yours. I just finished the Scandalous Life of a Lady and will start on Daniel's tale today, while I wait for Rex's book to arrive. Thanks for the great stories and happy endings! Love the spy intrigue, also. That's how I also found Tracy Grant and C.S. Harris!

Barbara responds:

How wonderful that you are reading my books! I think there are some Scandinavian translations, but I've never seen them.
Here is the order for the trilogy:
TRULY YOURS
THE SCANDALOUS LIFE OF A TRUE LADY
THE WICKED WAYS OF A TRUE HERO
I hope you like them.

My mother and I have been sharing your books for years. We adore your books enough that it became a Christmas tradition for me to order her any books of yours that had come out the previous year so that she wouldn't miss any. The blend of the universal quest for love and understanding with a thorough appreciation of the absurdity of the human condition makes for books that we read again and again. And even after several reads, they still never fail to make us smile all the way through, and by the end, we feel that warm glow that says life is worth living. Thanks for all the happy memories, and please keep up the wonderful, creative work you do!

Dear Barbara, You and Georgette Heyer are my favorite Regency writers. There are not many books I can reread many times, just to watch the story unfold, so amusingly. I was wandering in a shop yesterday and came across seven Regency books I hadn't read. Only problem was, I hadn't brought my wallet, and only had enough change to buy one. Well, I saw "The Diamond Key", and thought "Of course! Barbara Metzger's books are always the most enjoyable." So that's the one I bought. And I wasn't disappointed.

I have loved reading and collecting your books for over thirty years. I started reading them when I was in high school, and you have been my absolute favourite author ever since. I also read Edith Layton, Joan Smith, Carla Kelly, and other regency books from when I was sixteen, if I can find them. Your books are worth their weight in gold to me. I'm starting a collection for my fourteen year old daughter, because she loves them too. Thank you so much for over thirty years of reading pleasure. I'm finally going to try my luck at writing one, but not to be published. I just want to try writing one for fun. Thanks again.

I am a huge fan of your novels. They're always charming and witty, and they have great social commentary in them also. Since I first discovered them in the 90's, I wait impatiently for the next one to come out. In recent years, I especially enjoyed "The Hourglass", and am now awaiting Daniel's story from the "Truly Yours" series. I love your short stories in the Signet Christmas anthologies. I especially loved the one about the church mice with the Biblical names, and the one with the "King" in it. Thanks so much for all the enjoyment you have given me and others with your talent. Delighted to find your web page...I have read ALL your books...I am a total Regency fan...In recent years authors have written and described so much sex that it becomes rather disgusting...I truly don't understand how explicit sex with all the moans and groans add to anything...I just finished the Christmas 2008 book...as always...love your humour...anything you write is a plus. Have read the card trilogy twice...and saving them to read again on cruise in Dec.

Dear Barbara,
I have read your books for almost a decade, since I was in middle school - thank you for continuing to write! The series you have right now, with the truthtellers, is great. I had to go to 3 bookstores for the latest though, so I hope your sales are going ok. My favorite of yours is still Snowdrops and Scandalbroth, esp because of the male virgin hero & the vivid word picture of the initial lady's snotty nose). I have just read your interview with Risky Regencies, which was great! I hope your trademark humor will be able to come out to play more in future books.

Any news on the next book that will be out? Will it be on the cousin in the family? (I'm sorry, I'm really bad with names...Daniel? the one with the rash)

Sincerely,

You know, people always think that Regency Romances are fluffy and pointless and basically an excuse for soft porn (!!) but to people who say or think that, I would give them a Barbara Metzger book. Always unpredictable, well written, warm, funny and highly descriptive; I feel as if I am living them. I personally think I have better vocabulary, grasp of Regency era history and highly developed sense of humor (ahem) mostly because I am a HUUUUUGE fan of Regencies and more particularly, Barbara Metzger. Please, don't EVER stop writing! I have been reading your books since I was a teenager living in Pakistan and am now a 30 year old Chicagoan. I just finished my first Barbara Metzger: A Perfect Gentleman. I loved it! and have become an ardent fan. Barbara does not ignore the existence of sex; she recognizes it but does not worship it. She worships, I venture to guess, romance and laughter. As do I!

I just finished Rake's Ransom and A Loyal Companion. I just loved both stories, but especially the latter since Fitz the dog was so much fun with his musings and antics. I have read all of your books and find that no other Romance writer is equal to you for your wonderful humor and stories. Oh, I read others, but when I see Barbara Metzer, I buy the book immediately. You're the best!!!

Barbara Metzger is my favorite Regency Author. I first read " Snowdrops and Scandalbroth" and was hooked since then. Her books never fail to entertain me. Her mixture of romance and humor is magical. I have a hard time getting a copy of her books from the bookstores here but when I do get one it is always a keeper!

I REALLY ENJOYED THE STORY, PEOPLE AND MOST OF ALL, YOUR HUMOR. ROMANCE WITHOUT HUMOR IS BORING. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO HOURS OF ENTERTAINMENT. THANKS.

You are my favorite regency author. I try to read everything you have ever written and I'm never disappointed. I just finished reading "Ace of Hearts", and it sounds like there will be another book with Nell and Ace. I will be awaiting that book, because I'm curious of what happened to Lottie. Thanks for your books and don't ever stop writing.

You have been and still are one of my favorite writers. I have most of your back books. One of the main reasons I have a computer is to find out of print books by my favorite authors. I was able to retire in 1998 to avoid the computer transition from paper at work. When I see a book with your name I know I will have a fun engrossing read, and buy. Thank you for hours of enjoyment over the years.

Hi Barbara...I am one of the vet techs who have been taking care of Hero during his visits at the Clinic. I wanted to visit your page to see what pics you had on here of Hero and to tell you what a wonderful dog he is!!!!!! He is such a joy to be around and I want you to be assured that while he's here he is always getting lots of hugs and kisses from ALL of us! I had no idea until your last visit that you were an author. I am definitely going to start reading your books!

I'd like to find more of your books to read so I love the list of books on your site but....would it be possible to include a short write up or an excerpt to go along with each one?

Just finished "Ace of Hearts". Thank you! Have almost given up on Romance novels - tired of writers padding their books with explicit sex (not a prude at 73, just appreciate good writing). Your humor is one of your outstanding qualities. God knows, we can all use a little humor. Looking forward to Jack's story - can't come too soon.

Thank you for writing CHARMING books that make me laugh out loud. It's so hard to find books these days that are innocently delightful! Even other modern Regency novels are emotionally manipulative. After all, if I want gross, scary, explicit, or depressing, I just have to look around at our current life! The world needs more of your books. Thank you and keep writing! P.S. Since you now have emails here that go back 6 years, it might be helpful to move the "Add Your Comments" to the TOP of the page, or to its own page.

What an awesome author! Thank you for making us laugh so much--especially the silly puns--but the plots are incredible and really keep the reader's attention until the last page. I'm such a picky reader that the only other authors I'll consider in the so-called Regency genre are Edith Layton, Carla Kelly, and Georgette Heyer. That's awesome company for anyone. Thank you, thank you!

Dear Barbara Metzger, I have been reading you since The Inn, and then backed up. I collected your books and my girls grew up and now my younges has read my entire collection. I started reading you from the public library (my sister turned me on to you, as she was looking for an E. Peters under Mertz and found you - better) and am glad to know you are back there again. (My daughter will be also.) I am also glad to see you have won so many awards, and very glad that you continue to write. thank you.

Dear Barbara Metzger: I just finished THE DUEL. I saved it for the last of the batch that I had ordered in January; and it was absolutely wonderful! I loved Ian; but Lord Carswell made me howl with laughter. This was so far above what some of the "newest" Regency "stars" are capable of; and where I thought (& still believe) some will never ever be able to go. Thank you for letting us hardcore fans of the genre know that good writers are still out there. You handled everything (& everyone) with such grace & humor. I can barely wait for my second reading. Many Thanks!

Not since Heyer have I been so entertained by a Regency novel. Your sense of humor and comedies of manners are "suit me to a cow's thumb." I smile, I laugh out loud and read passages to my spouse, who is a great Austen fan. Would that someone would make films of your stories!

I own just about every book you've ever written...I've re-read them each many times over. Your ideas are great...I'm looking forward to many more hopefully! :) Thankyou! Erin Mills

Ms. Metzger, I like your site. However, a little suggestion, a summary after each book title would be nice. I am in the process of hunting down all your past titles and a short summary would let me know which ones to find first. Your writing style and sense of humor is awesome.Your command of the english language is excellent. Its evident in the play on words and puns found in your works. Keep up the excellent work. God Bless and continued success.
