Thank you for writing CHARMING books that make me laugh out loud. It's so hard to find books these days that are innocently delightful! Even other modern Regency novels are emotionally manipulative. Dear Barbara Metzger: I just finished THE DUEL. I saved it for the last of the batch that I had ordered in January; and it was absolutely wonderful! I loved Ian; but Lord Carswell made me howl with laughter. This was so far above what some of the "newest" Regency "stars" are capable of; and where I thought (& still believe) some will never ever be able to go. Thank you for letting us hardcore fans of the genre know that good writers are still out there. You handled everything (& everyone) with such grace & humor. I can barely wait for my second reading. Hello Barbara, been wanting to say a few words about how great your books are (all of them!). Once I start reading your books, just cann't seem to put them down. You never fail me in writing in such a way that, I really do laugh out loud while reading them and there sooooo entertaining and humorous. My husband takes a nap to relax...I read a book by Barbara Metzger and actually feel good and relaxed after reading your books. Never stop writing...you entertain so many of us! Barbara, love your books. I could read only those from here on and I would be happy. Have reread some already. To think I only started looking and reading your books about 2 years ago. Was lucky enough to buy most of them on the internet. Only missing 2. My husband takes a nap to relax. Your books relax me to the point I laugh out loud from the enjoyment of them. Always looking for your latest books to buy and read. May you always have the talent to keep on writing your wonderful books for a long time.

Dear Barbara, My husband and I normally read science fiction and fantasy, but about a year ago, we lost our 17 year old dog the week brfore Thanksgiving, and 4 days later, my 7 year old cat died of a blood clot. As she and I were very close, and it was completely unexpected, I was devestated. Wanting something that would make me feel good, I turned to regencies. I found An Angel for the Earl. I read it through twice in a row, and as I was reading it the second time, I told the story to my husband. We now are in the process of finding all of your books and short stories, and I have to fight my big, burly, manly man to see who gets to read them first!!! Thank you so much for seeing the humor in every day life, and the humor in love. Thank you for making so many people (me included) happy! And, last but not least, tanks for helping me heal. And, just to let you know, I have adopted a beautiful white kitty with pale gold eyes (my daughter found her after someone dumped her) who sleeps on my arm or my head, like Squeeker did. And guess what I named her? Angel! Thank you so much, Glynda

Your books have enlivened countless long hours in airports, on trains and planes, nursing the occasional ailment or just plain killing time. They are an "instant vacation" from the hum drum, work-a-day world. I am pleased to be able to add my praise and thanks to this long and impressive list of love letters from your readers. Sincerely, Kelley

Thanks for many great hours of reading. My Emily cat sends Hero her best "meow" greetings, although she does not generally like dogs on principle, being a cat of literary bent (which means she loves sitting on Regency Romances), she will try to make an exception in his case. Keep writing!

I have all your books except a few of the earlier ones. I am looking for them now on the web. When life gets to be too much for me (my husband just died of cancer) I pick up one and reread it. My favorites are "Early Engagement", "Minor Indescretions", "A Worthy Wife", and several more. Keep on writing, please.

Hello Barbara - Just read my first book of yours, "Miss Treadwell's Talent," and I loved it so much I immediately came hunting for your website. I'm going online shopping right now to find more of your books. I just love the humorous touch in a good Regency - keep up the good work. I'm so glad to find a "new to me" author whose books I can now feast on!

You're one of the reasons I frequently hound used book stores here in my country, the Philippines. The thrill of finding an "out-of-stock" book written by you gives me endless pleasure that makes my day. It all started with "My Lady Inkeeper" doubled with "An Early Engagement". Your stories are both tender and funny without being mushy. Hope you keep it up!!!

Dear Ms. Metzger, Having hopped through your site, I do not have much to add to the general cries of praise. I, too, have enjoyed all your books, not only their humor but also the gentle if surprising ways people are handled. As a note, I would guess I own more copies of AN ANGEL FOR THE EARL than anyone else on the planet, although perhaps a dozen or so of them are currently out on extended loan. Hope you and Hero find many treasures this summer on the beach. My aunt had a house on Dune Road in Quogue, so I have a basis for a clear picture of the two of you checking each lump of driftwood and seawood. Thank you again for many happy hours. I grew up reading Georgette Heyer, but I never found another Regency author I liked as much until I discovered your books in a used book store. Now I buy your books as soon as they come out, and I always read them at once--the day I buy them. I loved Lady Sparrow and the Diamond Key. You seem to get better and funnier with each book. I just hate the wait between books. This is my first visit to your site. I think Hero is cute. I enjoy the pets in your books, too. I have a black Pomeranian (Murphy), a Bichon (Maurice Chevalier), and a Shih Tsu (Max). Thanks for hours of enjoyment.

Barbara, I'm a member of a writing critique group and believe me - we are critical. However, you have won our heats. Your writing is delightful. I was recently housebound with a virus, so stocked up on 2nd hand books - including 'Saved by a Scandal.' It was so clever, and you are such a good writer. I'm sorry so many of your books are out of print, so you don't get the income from our passion. Can't you persuade an editor to reissue more? I was impressed by your website. For one thing, it works! And I do like Hero - very similar to my Jingles. I write historicals, but could never tackle a Regency - that requires a lightness of touch which I don't have - and you do. Thanks for the many hours of enjoyment. Carolin P.S. In what state do you live?

Ms Metzger I love to read and stumbled on your books about ten years ago. I loved them and always look for them in our bookstore. I feel you are a much better author than many who are in hard cover. Why have you never broken out of paperbacks like Mary Balogh and Mary Jo Putney ? In my opinion you are their equal although you are so much funnier. Also I loved the word play and read and reread them and always find something new to smile about. My wife enjoys them too. Keep up the good work Rodney Gigone

Hiyaz! My dad gave me a bunch of books to read over the summer - and they were all from the regency era, so me being a teenage girl thought that they would all be written in an English tone far superior than what i understand. However, I picked a book up by you called 'Minor Indescretions' and loved it so much that I ran to the bookstore and bought all the different books that they had in stock written by you. =) just wanted to let you know that you appeal to the young as well! ciao!!!

Your books have given me endless hours of pleasure. I am working on assembling a (so-far) complete collection to read in my hammock under the oak trees in our garden, gently drifting into that world you create, where one never knows what will happen next, but when it does, it always seems logical, as when the gently brought up, innocent, sweet heroine bops the villain or sometimes the hero.

Your books are a delight. Of course, I do have to be careful about reading them in public because guffaws are not always understood and even titters tend to draw unwanted attention. And your books do tend to produce titters and guffaws in the reader. My sister, Peggy, introduced me to your work. I trust her taste and tried "Lady Whilton's Wedding," which remains one of my favorites, along with "The Primrose Path," which has a wonderfully true-to-life English bulldog with a flatulence problem. All of us who love them knew immediately why our hero should not close that window. Generally I do not read romance, but you have joined ranks with Roberta Gellis as the exceptions. She has taught me more English history than I learned in 13 years of school - and painlessly. Your books delight and entertain and I wish you a long life in the best of health so you can continue writing them. An addendum: I review mysteries here at The Washington Times. Your writing stacks up well alongside the best. Judith

Like others, I enjoy finding an author who carries on the tradition of Georgette Heyer- Regency romance with humor and fun. I hope your publisher can be persuaded to re-issue more titles. Also, in my opinion, no book is a good book unless at least one of the characters is an animal. Must be why I like Patricia Veryan's work as well.
